
Ares is one the Greek gods and the first son Zeus and Hera. His parents and other gods don't particularly like him, but Aphrodite is his constant lover. The god is often associated with war and violence in all of its ugly forms. He is associated with violence, blood, indiscriminate killing and the destruction or life.
Ares was a war god
Ares was the war god of ancient Greece. He embodied the most violent and barbaric parts of war, and he was the brother of Athena, who represented the honorable and benevolent aspects of war. Spartan society was at its center when the strong Spartan army was there. To begin military training, boys as young seven-years old can leave their home. There was no other vocation or education for them. The god Ares was worshiped by the Spartans, who represented Sparta's values. In the city, they erected a statue in chains of Ares.

Ares is the ancestor for the god Mars. He was also the father of the founders Romulus and Remus. While Ares was hated and despised by all gods, the goddess Aphrodite loved him. Although she was married to the mortal god Hephaestus, Aphrodite preferred handsome Ares.
