Ancient temples offer the chance to view sculptures made of different materials and cult images. The first cult images were made of wood. Later, they were made out of stone and cast bronze. Crystelephantine (a mix of gold, ivory) is one of the most popular cult image materials. Zeus was one of these statues, and it was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.
Parthenon
The Parthenon is a great example of architecture. Although the building's horizontal lines seem to sag, its designers deliberately curved them. The designers also made the vertical column's middle thicker, which makes the whole structure seem more dynamic. Many hidden features, such as curved columns, were also included by the architects of Parthenon, which adds to the overall design.
Parthenon is a marvellous example of architectural sophistication. Friezes depicting battles or gods decorate the temple's outer wall. A child is shown holding a folded cloth. Two girls are carrying something.
Heraion
The Heraion, an ancient temple in Samos Greece dedicated to goddess Hera, is a huge sanctuary. It is situated six kilometres from Samos' ancient city. This site was the center of worship in the early Hellenistic period. This temple was one among the earliest Ionic temples that were free-standing and large. It was also listed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on 22 December 1992.
Samos has made this site a popular spot for many years. In 1925, a sustained campaign of excavations began here. The Second World War interrupted work, but it was resumed in 1951. Ernst Buschor & Ernst Homann Wedeking led the excavation project, which continued until the early 1960s. These excavations provided a chronology for the site and revealed a range of votive objects that date back to the 8th-century.
Athena Nike temple
The Athena Nike temple is dedicated to the goddesses Athena and Nike and is one of the oldest temples on the Acropolis. It was built circa 420 BC. It contains columns and marble columns with intricately carved marble, as well statues of the goddesses.
The temple is located on a bastion in the Acropolis and is a good example of Greek architecture. It is built in Ionic style. The east and west fronts have four monolithic pillars. Athena Nike was a goddess of victory and was worshipped here. There was also a wooden Athena Nike cult sculpture in the temple, holding a helmet and an olive tree in one hand.
Hatshepsut mortuary temple
Beautiful examples of ancient Egyptian architecture can be found in the Hatshepsut Mortuary Temple. This building is located near Luxor in Egypt. It is a great example of ancient architecture.
It is very similar to the Mentuhotep I temple, but it was built more elaborately. It features three terraces on each side and Proto Doric columns. The temple was surrounded by gardens.
