Whether you are a Greek mythology fanatic or just curious about Greek mythology, there are a few stories from Greece that you should know. These stories are for all ages, from Hercules the Argonauts, Hermaphrodite to the Golden Fleece.

Hercules

Hercules was an ancient Greek hero. He was the son of Alcmene (Zeus) and Hercules (Alcmene). When he was still young, Hera wanted to kill him. Hera failed to kill him after he fought and killed serpents and bears. Eurystheus made Hercules a penitent later. Hercules went through 12 labors in return for his good deeds.

Odysseus

The hero Odysseus is an iconic figure from Greek mythology. He was a king of Ithaca and became a hero during the Trojan War. He is also remembered for his genius in Greek mythology, and the trick he used to convince Paris to take Helen.

Hermaphrodite

The Greek mythology tells of Hermaphroditus, a handsome boy, the son of Aphrodite and Hermes. Hermaphroditus was a loving father and a great lover to his many beautiful children. Hermaphroditus had a beautiful enough face that Salmacis, the naiad Salmacis, attempted to rape it. Salmacis desired to be one for all time with Hermaphroditus. But the naiad tried rape him.


The Titanomachy

The Titanomachy is an ancient story in Greek mythology. It recounts Zeus's birth in Lydia and the battle with the Titans. Zeus, the ruler of all the universe, decided that the world should be divided into three parts. He drew longest straw. Gaia (the ruler of the Underworld) and Uranus (the straw's other ends) were responsible for drawing the straw. Hades, the ruler over the Underworld, had the shortest straw end. But not all Titans were associated with Zeus' son and other mythological stories tell of a different Titaniad.

Sisyphus

Sisyphus, a mythological Greek figure who lived in Ephyra (later Corinth), is an example of a mythological character. He was Enarete and Aeolus' son. He was also known for his cunning. He is also the father of the famous Greek hero Odysseus, and was considered the wisest man of his time. Sisyphus is believed to have created the Isthmian Games. These games are held in honour of the sea god Poseidon.

The Golden Fleece

The Golden Fleece in Greek mythology is a legendary item that was coveted by the Greek god Jason. Jason believed that if Jason could obtain it, he'd regain his father’s throne as Thessaly’s kingship. The ancient kingdom of Colchis is believed to have the Fleece. It is located today in Georgia.
