
Ares is one the Greek gods and the first son Zeus and Hera. Although he is not favored by his parents, or any other gods except for Aphrodite, he is his most loyal lover. The god is often associated with war and violence in all of its ugly forms. He is associated with blood, violence and indiscriminate death, as well as the destruction of lives.
Ares was a war god
Ares was ancient Greece's war god. He embodied the most violent and barbaric parts of war, and he was the brother of Athena, who represented the honorable and benevolent aspects of war. While Ares was considered to be the god for war, the Greeks thought that he could aid individuals in their personal battles.
He was a lover of Aphrodite
Zeus and Hera both had a son, the god Ares. He was associated to war, death, and boundaries. He also loved women. A Greek myth reveals that Ares and Aphrodite had a secret relationship. Ares was not an extremely popular god according to the ancient Greek myths. Hephaestus often held Ares in contempt.

He was a bloodthirsty warrior
Ares, the god of war, was a bloodthirsty maniac, and he thrived on destruction. The Greeks worshiped him from about 1200 BC. He was born in Thrace. His people were very fearsome. Ares, due to his bloodthirsty nature and ability to defeat in battle, was not a popular god. He was also often put into a pan by giants and was frequently the victim of Athena’s fury.
He was a symbol for indiscriminate murder
Ares was the Greek god and warrior Ares. He is often depicted in mythology as the man who penetrates the shield and sacks the capital. He represented the violent side in battle and was different from Athena, which represents a more strategic war. Ares, a god of violence, was often seen with his brothers Phobos, Deimos and his sister Eris. His symbols are a spear, and a sword. He is also associated to the boar, vulture and dead carcasses.
Athena defeated him
Athena, Ares and the sea that thundered in the background fought and fell upon each other. Their immortal feet made the earth crackle beneath their feet. Their battle-cries rose across the sky, from the high heavens to Hades’ abyss to the lowlands. Both gods as well as men cried out in pain.
Spartan warriors loved him.
The mighty Spartan army was the center of Spartan life. To begin military training, boys as young seven-years old can leave their home. There was no other vocation or education for them. The god Ares was worshiped by the Spartans, who represented Sparta's values. They placed a statue with chains of the god in the city.

He is the Roman god Mars's ancestor
Ares is the ancestor and father of Mars, the god of creation. The gods hated Ares but Aphrodite loved him. Aphrodite preferred the handsome Ares, even though her marriage was to Hephaestus.
