The World Religions Conference is an annual event that brings together multi-faith people from across Canada. It dates back to 1981, when it first took place in Brantford Ontario. Today, it is considered Canada's largest multi-faith gathering. It encourages dialogue among different religions.
Interreligious dialogue
The Boston College Coloquia on Interreligious Discussion will bring together scholars of different religions and from all parts of the world to tackle fundamental questions in this field. Michael J. Puett is the Walter C. Klein professor of Chinese History at Harvard University. This year, he will speak on how Chinese religions may help Western rituals. Anantanand Rambachan from Stonehill College, who is a professor of Hindu Studies and Associate Prof of Religious Studies at College of the Holy Cross will talk about the ways Hinduism could learn from Christian social thoughts.
Animism
Animism can be described as one of many world religions which has a profound influence over our lives. It is sometimes described as an esoteric religious system, but it also has practical applications. People use various practices to achieve their goals, such as offering prayers for healing or protection from evil.
Totemism
Totemism is a form of religion that is the product of members of a society projecting their religious values and symbols onto objects of a sacred nature. Durkheim's philosopher says that every religious belief works in the same way. Rituals produce a collective consciousness. This is a shared set, thought, and religious framework.
Hinduism
Recent conference in Utah featured a panel about Hinduism. The conference had two goals: to raise awareness and present new ideas to the public about religion in modern times. Sarma stressed the importance of understanding Hindu belief and practice within the context of Western faith traditions, despite the conference's main focus on religion.
Islam
The Islam at world religious conferences conference will be a major event that will present the many religions around the world. The conference will feature talks by some of the most renowned scholars of Islam in America. There will be speakers from all walks of the Muslim community at this conference. Eight of the fourteen speakers will be women, and two will be African-American. The format of the presentations will be similar to those seen in TED Talks. This format is to make the presentations accessible and more relevant to a broad audience.
Judaism
Judaism was traditionally considered a minority religion. However, there are many Jews in America and other countries. It seeks to build a just society by applying its teachings to commerce, industry, social order and business. It also seeks to end poverty, tyranny and social inequality. It promotes the right of all people to a decent standard living and the dignity of human life.
Unitarianism
Unitarianism is a good example of a global religion. It has a long history of establishing relations with people of other faiths and is considered a secular religion. Yet it is distinct from other faiths in several ways. Unitarianism has become a pluralistic liberal movement within the English-speaking globe, but it still retains its uniqueness in continental Europe.
